About this Event:

Becoming an Outdoors Women (BOW) instructor Barb Brenner will lead a 3-day / 2-night paddle camping trip on scenic Bog River located in the west/central Adirondacks.

  • This trip allows for several miles of paddling and tent camping.

  • One boat carry is necessary in this trip, approximately ¼ mile long.

  • Participants will participate in trip planning and preparation in a Zoom meeting on Thursday July 2nd, 2026 at 7:00 pm, approximately one week before the trip.

  • Included in the trip are opportunities to practice wilderness skills such as water treatment, fire-making, compass use, and more.

Participants must provide their own boats, gear, food, cooking equipment, and transportation to the Bog River boat launch on the Lower Dam Road. (Participants may be able to rent equipment from outfitters in advance.)
Canoes are recommended for the trip as they are easier to load and unload gear into and to transport at the boat carry.  Kayaks are allowed as long as they have below-deck storage to hold gear. Recreational kayaks are not appropriate for this trip as this type of boat isn’t intended to carry gear for a 3-day trip.  When emailing to sign up for the trip, please include a picture of your boat.
We will be staying at a wilderness campsite that may have a box-type (no roof) pit privy.  Water will be filtered from the lake.

Prerequisite: Paddling experience is required. Must be at least a novice-level paddler and able to manage your craft in moderate wind and waves.
Must be age 18 or over to participate.

Please contact Barb Brenner (bjabrenner@gmail.com) for more information, registration, and with any questions.  Send a picture of your boat in your registration email.

About the Program

Overview:

HFNY events allow you to see what the outdoor experience and wildlife conservation are all about.
Event topics can include target shooting, archery, fishing, field dressing, trapping, mentored hunts, seminars, social gatherings and more.

Events are designed for all ability levels, unless otherwise indicated.
HuntFishNY events are offered by NY DEC and a network of partners and instructors who conduct hands-on events, teaching the basics of hunting, fishing, trapping, outdoor safety, wildlife, and other outdoor skills.

DEC may facilitate registration and aid in advertising for HFNY events. If not a DEC hosted or co-hosted event, the logistics and implementation of the event are solely the responsibility of the host.
If you have questions about an event, please contact the event host for more information.
