About this Event:
Putnam Federation of Sporting Clubs, Inc. in cooperation with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, are sponsoring a Junior Hunter Pheasant Hunt on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Great Swamp Multiple Use Area on Cornwall Hill Road (County Route 64) in the town of Patterson.
1. This program is open only to Junior Hunters (ages 12 to 15) who have passed a NYS Hunter Safety course and are in possession of a valid NYS small Game License. The child must be at least 12-years of age on the day of the hunt and may not yet be 16-years of age on the day of the hunt.
2. All Junior Hunters (ages 12 & 13) must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or relative over 21 and must have written permission from parent or legal guardian.
3. Clothing of the participants should be appropriate for the current weather conditions. as the program will be held rain or shine. Junior Hunters and anyone accompanying them afield must have at minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent hunter orange or pink outerwear, visible from all directions as per NYS Environmental Conservation Law.
4. Shooting glasses and ear protection are REQUIRED.
5. The Junior Hunter must bring their own shotgun and shells. (Any shotgun and ammunition legal for taking upland game under New York State Environmental Conservation Law may be used.)

HuntFishNY events are offered by NY DEC and a network of partners and instructors who conduct hands-on events, teaching the basics of hunting, fishing, trapping, outdoor safety, wildlife, and other outdoor skills.
DEC may facilitate registration and aid in advertising for HFNY events. If not a DEC hosted or co-hosted event, the logistics and implementation of the event are solely the responsibility of the host.
