About this Event:
Thank you for your interest in the 19th Annual Robert F. DeRoo Memorial Youth Pheasant Hunt on October 10 at Montezuma Audubon Center. This is a free event for youth ages 12-15 to celebrate conservation through hunting and space is limited so registration is required. Registration deadline is September 18.
In order to participate in the hunt, the youth hunter must bring a current 2026-2027 Junior Hunting License.
The adult mentor must bring a 2026-2027 New York State Hunting License.
All youth hunters and their adult mentor are required to attend a safety meeting and dinner at Montezuma Audubon Center, 2295 NY-89, Savannah, NY 13146, on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
The Pheasant Hunt will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026. We’ll meet at Montezuma Audubon Center at 7 AM to review the safety procedures with the youth hunters and their mentor before shooting clay targets and hunting pheasants. The youth hunters/mentors will be paired up with a hunt guide and dog while hunting pheasants.
Here is a list of items the youth will need to bring to the hunts:
• appropriate firearm for pheasant hunting
• ammunition; #4 or #6 shot in 12 gauge or 20 gauge
• blaze orange hat and vest (provided at the Sept. 19 dinner)
Please direct any questions about the hunt to Chris Lajewski, 315.365.3588, chris.lajewski@audubon.org.
