About this Event:
Participate in an all-ages, all-levels family friendly event to explore the sport of fly fishing through interactive hands-on instruction provided by the DEC and State Parks on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the Connetquot River State Park. During this FREE fishing clinic participants will learn basic fly casting techniques and can take a tour of the fish hatchery on site. Vendors from fishing clubs and women-owned fishing businesses will also be present at the event.

Gear for participants: Borrow a fishing rod and tackle or bring your own. Bait will also be available.
Access details: There will be an entrance fee of $8 per vehicle.
Pre-registration is required. To register, call the DEC's I FISH NY Program at 631-444-0283, or email fwfish1@dec.ny.gov.
A freshwater fishing license is not required to participate in this free fishing clinic.

Overview:
HFNY events allow you to see what the outdoor experience and wildlife conservation are all about.
Event topics can include target shooting, archery, fishing, field dressing, trapping, mentored hunts, seminars, social gatherings and more.
Events are designed for all ability levels, unless otherwise indicated.

HuntFishNY events are offered by NY DEC and a network of partners and instructors who conduct hands-on events, teaching the basics of hunting, fishing, trapping, outdoor safety, wildlife, and other outdoor skills.
DEC may facilitate registration and aid in advertising for HFNY events. If not a DEC hosted or co-hosted event, the logistics and implementation of the event are solely the responsibility of the host.
