About this Event:

The Hudson Valley Upland Game Association invites you to join their 3rd Annual Sponsored Pheasant Hunt this October 17, 2026 from 8am until 2pm at Tivoli Bays Wildlife Management Area.

Event Details:

This event is geared towards Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and/or novice hunters who want to get into the field and experience the excitement of pheasant hunting in a supportive and mentored environment. This event is free and open to all members of the public.

Participants will learn the basics of pheasant hunting in an upland environment. Safe firearm handling practices will be taught and continually reinforced. Two birds will be released for each registered participant on the morning of the hunt. Participants will be divided into groups of three and guided by an experienced hunter with dog.

- Current hunting license
- Orange hat
- Upland game vest (recommended, not required)
- All participants must bring their own shotgun and shells. We recommend 12 or 20 gauge shotguns with two boxes of “game load” shells.
- Durable clothing appropriate for hiking through uneven, potentially muddy fields of grass and shrubs.
- Change of clothes in case you get wet.
- Small cooler with ice for your cleaned pheasant.
- Pack a lunch, snacks, and enough water for a few hours of physical activity.
- Pocketknife and zipper plastic bags for cleaning game and transporting meat.

Please contact the event coordinator at hudsonvalleyuga@gmail.com with any questions about the event.

About the Program

Overview:

HFNY events allow you to see what the outdoor experience and wildlife conservation are all about.
Event topics can include target shooting, archery, fishing, field dressing, trapping, mentored hunts, seminars, social gatherings and more.

Events are designed for all ability levels, unless otherwise indicated.
HuntFishNY events are offered by NY DEC and a network of partners and instructors who conduct hands-on events, teaching the basics of hunting, fishing, trapping, outdoor safety, wildlife, and other outdoor skills.

DEC may facilitate registration and aid in advertising for HFNY events. If not a DEC hosted or co-hosted event, the logistics and implementation of the event are solely the responsibility of the host.
If you have questions about an event, please contact the event host for more information.
