About this Event:
The NYS DEC will be hosting a mentored youth deer hunt in Jefferson County on October 10 and 11. The objective of this event is to provide deer hunting opportunities for youth hunters with little to no hunting experience. Youth hunters will be paired one-on-one with experienced hunting mentors and will hunt local properties to harvest an antlerless deer.

Space is limited, so all those who apply may not be chosen. Priority will be given to early applicants and those with the least hunting experience.

Friday October 9: Required firearm safety session, range practice, and mentor meet-and-greet
Saturday October 10 and Sunday October 11: Mentored hunts as arranged with the mentors. Hands-on game processing opportunities for everyone.
Requirements:
- Participants must be aged 12 to 15
- Valid Junior Hunting license
- Transportation to and from the event
- Firearm and ammunition appropriate for deer hunting
- Clothing and boots appropriate for autumn conditions in northern NY. Bring layers. Camouflage isn’t required, focus on earth-tones. Some hunting clothing will be available to borrow, no need to purchase clothing for this event
- Participants must wear a fluorescent orange or pink hat, vest, or jacket while hunting

HFNY events allow you to see what the outdoor experience and wildlife conservation are all about.

HuntFishNY events are offered by NY DEC and a network of partners and instructors who conduct hands-on events, teaching the basics of hunting, fishing, trapping, outdoor safety, wildlife, and other outdoor skills.
DEC may facilitate registration and aid in advertising for HFNY events. If not a DEC hosted or co-hosted event, the logistics and implementation of the event are solely the responsibility of the host.
