To register for the New York DEC Bow Hunter Education Course. Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026 Time: 8:00am - 3:00pm Located at: Armor Fire Hall 4932 Clark Street Hamburg, NY 14075 About the Event: Doors Open at 7:30 AM Class Begins at 8:00 AM SHARP! Anyone arriving AFTER the Start of Class Will Not Be Admitted! On-Line Registration: Max. Class Size is 25 Register for this Bow Hunter Education Course on the DEC's website. To register for a Bow Hunter Education Course, there is NO CHARGE for the Class. You must attend the entire Bow Hunting Training Course on the date and at the location indicated on the course schedule listing. * ALL In-Person Bow Hunter Training Course Participants MUST do ALL of the following: Homework and Study Materials: All Hunter Education Courses require the completion of Homework prior to attending the course. Participants MUST BRING COMPLETED HOMEWORK WORKSHEETS to the Bow Hunter Training Course led by an instructor. The homework will take several hours to complete. You can complete the homework in a couple of ways (please choose one): You can download the manual and homework worksheet on the NY DEC website/link. Or, if you prefer to work from a hard copy of the manual, one can be mailed to you by emailing hunter@dec.ny.gov and include your name, mailing address, and type of in-person course. You MUST COMPLETE the Homework Worksheets! *IMPORTANT: You MUST bring the Completed Homework Worksheets with you to class! The Completed Homework Worksheets are YOUR ADMISSION TICKET TO THE COURSE. NO Completed Homework Worksheets, NO ADMISSION! Additional Instructions: Nobody will be allowed to bring or carry any firearms to the Bow Hunter Training Course, this is New York State Law! All participants should bring a Pen, bring a Lunch, and dress appropriately for Outdoor Activity! AGE REQUIRMENTS: Must be Eleven (11) years old on the Date of the Bowhunter Course! Students 11 to 16-years old must have a signed Permission Slip (PDF, 106 KB) from a parent or legal guardian to allow for the handling equipment during this course. Event Policies:
This course covers archery basics, crossbow safety, bowhunter responsibility, and ethical bowhunting practices. Upon completion of the course and scoring 80% or higher on the final exam, you will earn your Bowhunter Education Certificate. This certificate does not expire and is required to purchase a NYS Bowhunting Privilege.
Class length is approximately 6 hours with breaks. All students must bring the completed homework to this course. If homework is not completed, you will not be permitted to participate. You can download the manual and homework on this page. All class equipment will be provided for you, unless course information states otherwise.
Students are encouraged to bring:
- Personal snacks and drinks.
- Appropriate clothing for the weather and outdoor conditions, including proper footwear.
- Pen/Pencil, sunscreen and bug spray (season dependent)
Parents or guardians who wish to attend for observation should notify the instructor that you will be auditing the class.
Minimum Age Policies:
Student must be at least 11 years old to attend the course, unless they will, within the next year, hunt in a state that allows hunting under the age of 12.

Overview:
Bowhunter Education is required to hunt ONLY deer and bear with a bow or crossbow. While not required, the course is recommended for anyone wishing to hunt any game with archery or crossbow.
This course covers safety techniques and responsible, ethical hunting practices when pursuing game with a bow or crossbow.
